Crap, Becca, three items in a row that just are depressing to me. The Kirk Van Houten picture, which hearkened back to my own parents' divorce, the Erica Campbell pics that reminded me of Emily Sander, and now this, that reminds me of my dad, who served in WW2 in the European Theater.
And Buzz, the guy is most likely eating a candy bar.
Some of the men pictured may have went to war atheists, but practically no one that fought the Nazis came back denying the existence of a great evil.
Buzz- I agree with Anon I think he's eating...but good catch. And yeah it's sad to think that a number of these fellas didn't make it home, but I think that's also part of the beauty of the captured moment. I can't imagine walking 30 seconds in any of these brave men's shoes.
Arkonbey- Marines indeed.
Anon- Oh noes! I'm sorry for bumming you out! I bet your dad had some amazing stories...if he ever shared...I know so many just didn't. Not that I can't understand why of course.
Think happy thoughts and hopefully I'll post something a bit more fun soon :)

They had their priorities in order, didn't they?
Yes, priorities, indeed ;->
I know a French woman who married a GI thanks to D-Day ;->
Is the guy right above the pin-up sucking his thumb?
I hope this was just a training exercise, 'cuz about half the guys in this picture would be dead or injured in the next hour.
Oo-rah, Marines.

From the camouflage helmet covers, these are probably Marines and the photo was probably taken in the Pacific Theatre somewhere.
Dr. Monkey-
Oh yeah!
Erik-
Smart girl ;)

Chas-
That makes sense, though I admit I'm not sure where the picture was taken. It's just an amazing image.
